My views on other students work on opening sequences

Dare to Thrill

The video had lost of handheld camera movements, and lots of close up images to allow the audience to notice the characters actions such as turning on the car and raising/lowering the volume of the music. There is an establishing shot of the parking garage to allow the audience to have an idea where these teens are located and why they are there.  Lots of mid level shots are used to give the audience the illusion of being the same height as the teens and the illusion of being one of the members of the friend group. The dark atmosphere allows a sudden mood change to appear because in the beginning the emotion that the audience can feel is happiness and cheerfulness, but once the characters hear the noise in the trunk the dark lighting allows the fearful and mysterious atmosphere to smoothly and strongly cover up the previous emotion that was being used.

Always Watching

In this video, the main editing used are jump cuts, this allows the storytelling to be advanced and what the main character's motive is during the plot of the opening scene. The film uses natural lighting throughout all the scenes but the cuts that show the main character and another character utilize an edited lighting tone in order to make the mood of the scene feel more fearful and sinister. The movie also utilizes some shoulder cuts in order for the audience to understand who the victim of the story will be, and some handheld/tracking shots to allow the audience to feel immersed. overall this opening video is a great example on how to utilize jump cuts properly.
The Blue Boar

The close ups in this opening video are great examples of how people should utilize this specific camera shot, especially if they are planning on making a musical based movies such as the recent movie "Wicked," This video has great uses of technical elements such as close ups of a person's lips in order to give off a demanding tone that the main character is shocked about. The close-up shots also give off a more dramatic/ dynamic feeling of when the main character is singing through the opening sequence.
White Coat

Immediately the first few seconds of this film uses a low-key lighting in order to give the audience a feeling of mystery and wonder/fear because of how all of the shots can be very dark allowing the audience to be put in the same situation as the tied up character. The close-ups also allow the audience to get an up close look on what the scientist is mixing into the beakers and allow the audience to question what the motive of the scientist is like. This video is a great example of how to create suspense due to the multiple cuts that pushes the story forward and the close-ups previously mentioned.
Stalker
This video uses multiple uses of "over the shoulder shots"and "mid shots" the reasoning why the video uses these specific shots is to allow the audience to be put in the shoes of the girl. The "over the shoulder shots give the audience the feeling of being the stalker watching her, and the uncomfortable feeling that the girl has with someone watching her consistently. The close-ups used also allows the audience to understand the sense of fear that the character has over feeling like shes being stalked even in her calmest times.
Rise
This film utilizes many wide shots in order to show the audience the speed and talent that the main character has with playing soccer. The close-ups that are used in this video allow the audience to feel the power of the kicks that are used to launch the soccer ball into the goal, the close-ups could also give off a mental feeling of feeling the wind blowing along with the soccer ball. This video is a great example of how to use a establishing/ wide shot in order to express the talent and skill that the main character has in playing soccer.
Dear Lover
This video utilizes many close ups to allow the audience to see the emotion being displayed between the interaction of the two main characters and the main protagonist of the love story. Over the shoulder shots are also used to further enhance the heartbreaking event that has unfolded prior to the main conclusion of the opening sequence. This video is a great example on how to use multiple elements that an actual movie would have For example, this movie contains a flashback, wide, mid, and bird's eye view camera shots.
