Analyzing Technical Elements of Film

The Movie I have decided to comment on is the Transformers from 2007, I have decided to analyze this movie because this movie is what introduced me to heavy action movies and Sci-fi films of the time, along with making me a huge fan of the transformer franchise. This Film in particular uses lots of close-up shots and low camera angles to give the audience the feeling of excitement as they watch huge robots fight each other and to immerse the audience that these huge things are powerful compared to a small human.

In the beginning of this clip (0:00) you hear the "bouncy" tires of the red and blue truck that is at a low angle handheld camera shot to depict how fast the truck is going through the traffic, after this you then hear the diegetic roar of two sports cars that shock the audience as the cars go through the same highway as the truck.

later the film utilizes a middle/wide shot to enhance the intensity of the scene and to show the audience that the red and blue truck has two allies with him in the action scene, one of them being a medical vehicle that also has a diegetic sound of a loud siren blaring to allow that character to stand out in the action.

Later on (0:19) the antagonists come out of hiding and cause explosions with cars that have innocent civilians, this gives the audience an emotion of fear since these metallic giants can kill innocent people just because that are in there way, another emotion shown is shock because the film shows the villains flipping cars up in the air most likely killing people in the action. The scene shown on the photo utilizes a handheld, middle, and tracking shot to show the destruction that this vehicle is leaving behind with it claw.

(At 1:03 until 1:10) This clip shows the protagonist and antagonist fighting on the highway while being shot in a wide shot to depict the size of these beasts compared to man-made objects meanwhile the audience is in awe due to the intensity of the fight increasing as the movie goes on. The Photo being shown is a great usage of a handheld and Point of view shot that gives the audience fear and shock on how close the people inside the car were almost killed by the heavy impact of the robots This scene also includes diagetic sounds coming from the robotic grunts and yells from both the antagonists and protagonist.

The following clip (1:12 - 1:17) also involves the Handheld, and point of view camera shot from the previous one but with a twist. This scene involves a close-up camera shot and a slow-motion technique to allow the audience to analyze the way the faces of these robots look, along with feeling of a heavy punch to the face from these mechanical beings. This scene also includes a diegetic sound of a "Metal Echo" to add more feeling to the punch delivered to the antagonist.

The final scene that I would like to talk about starts from 1:25 until 1:45. The start of the scene includes a low angle shot to express the audience once more that these organisms are gigantic, then a few seconds later includes multiple close-up shots to allow the audience to feel like they are actually see the action from a real world perspective (For example the close up shot of the sword at 1:28).

Through this scene there are multiple diagetic sounds to increase the intensity of the fight as it draws to a close, these sounds include metal impact sounds, and sparking sounds so signify that the antagonist is "bleeding"; these sounds make the audience shock due to how brutal the fight ends. Then at 1:38 until 1:45, the scene transition from a ground level shot to a close up of the protagonists' face, which makes the audience what the protagonists next movie will be since the fight has ended .
